18 Wheeler kills family of 4 in Magee, Mississippi

Family of 4 killed in Magee, Mississippi 18 wheeler wreck

As a family sat in their van waiting for the light to turn green in Magee, Mississippi, an 18-wheeler slammed into them killing the family of four. The wreck occurred on U.S. Highway 49 in Magee, Mississippi. Those killed were Kimberly Smith and Edgar Smith along with their two teenage children. The Smith family was from Inverness, Mississippi.

The driver of the tractor-trailer rig, owned by JNJ Express, received minor injuries. There were also reports of another person injured during the wreck. Police are investigating to determine the cause of the wreck, but it appears the 18-wheeler was at fault given the Smith family was stopped waiting for a light to change when struck. The driver of the tractor-trailer may face criminal charges following the investigation.

Man died after falling from Mississippi cellphone tower

Arkansas man killed in fall from Mississippi cell phone tower

iStock_000003229496XSmall.jpgThe Clarion-Ledger reported that a worker climbing was killed when he fell from a cell phone tower in Leland, Mississippi. Although Shane Dushen was wearing a harness, something went wrong when he fell 200 feet to his death. Investigators will try to determine why he fell to his death. If the worker was hooked up to the cell phone tower with his harness, then the harness could have failed and a product liability action could be brought against the manufacturer. However, if he was unhooked at the time of his fall, then the question is why he unhooked that far up in the air.

Two men killed in Copiah County, Mississippi plane crash

Copiah County, Mississippi plane crash claims two lives

A single engine plane crashed yesterday in Copiah County, Mississippi shortly after taking off from the Copiah County Airport. The pilot, Gerry Mosley of Hazlehurst, and the passenger, Steve Davis of Brookhaven, were both killed. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash. Witnesses reportedly heard the engine quit before impact and said the plane was attempting to make an emergency landing when it crashed.

Having flown single-engine planes, one of the most dangerous times for a pilot is immediately after take-off. If the engine quits during this time, there is little time to react and the plane has a greater chance of stalling aerodynamically. We will have to await the results of the investigation to see what caused the crash.
